Exhibition Design
Juxtaposition In The Form Of Graffiti

Artist: Kua Siang Er

Description: Graffiti is commonly associated with eye sore or vandalism, hence this temporary exhibition for Malaysian street artist; Kenji Chai is aimed to turn around this negative perception. The exhibition is located at Merdeka Square, a local heritage cultural location which has some existing graffiti around the area as well. These two contrasting elements in one context leads to the idea of juxtaposition. The main gallery showcases “White Room” and “Graffiti Room” that co-exists despite their distinctive colours and textures. The overall architecture of the building is also designed to create a contrast with the site context in order to attract public’s attention and cohesively educate them about street art aesthetics.
