Description: The mechanical flipbook is a motorized version of the traditional flipbook whereby images are animated by flipping the pages of a book quickly. Rather than just making a motorized flipbook, it allows viewers a more interactive experience. The mechanical flipbook involves a cockatoo sitting in its birdcage. When viewers open the birdcage’s door, the motorized flipbook activates and the cockatoo will sway happily from side to side. Opening the door represents freedom which in turn brings life and happiness. The animation stops when the door is closed. Closing the door represents trapped and isolated, which restricts many things in life. The birdcage is near life-size to give the viewers a more real feeling.
The birdcage and the flipbook mechanism is constructed using plywood, skewers, and wooden chopsticks, while the electronic components consist of an Arduino Uno, DC motor, L298N, micro switch, a 10k ohm resistor, and wires.
